Fort Kent, ME.
– The University of Maine at Fort Kent women’s soccer team defeated Maine Maritime Academy 2-1 in double overtime in a non-conference game at Fort Kent, Maine.

Sophomore Whitney Sinclair (Dexter, ME) scored the game winner in the 111th minute in double overtime off a Theresa Biggs (FR. Cape Town, South Africa) assist. Biggs made a nice run from midfield and found Sinclair 35 yards out. Sinclair flicked the ball past a Maine Maritime defender to herself and beat keeper Lacey Jackson (21saves on 25 shots) low to the right corner for the win.

Maine Maritime got on the board first in the 30th minute as Callie Thompson got by the UMFK defense on the end line and beat UMFK goalie Mindy Morneault low to the far corner. MMA (2-3) keeper Jackson and their defense, anchored by junior Megan Russell were able to counter a 25-5 disadvantage in shots on goal by forcing UMFK into low percentage shots for much of the day.

Russell covered Jackson by saving a sure goal by Chasse in the 60th minute. The MMA defense and lone goal would stand all the way into the 79th minute when freshmen Morgan Chasse (Veazie, ME) scored her first career goal on a Sinclair assist to tie the contest. The teams then battled through the first 10mintue overtime scoreless and into the 111th minute. UMFK took 37 total shots to Maine Maritime’s five and the Lady Bengals also held a eight to zero advantage in corner kicks.
