Lady Mariners and UMPI Owls play to a 0-0 draw
Castine, Maine - The Lady Mariners from Maine Maritime and the Owls from UMaine Presque Isle played to a 0-0 (2OT) tie on Wednesday evening at Ritchie Field. The story of the night was the defense, as each squads back line prohibited the offenses from getting on track.
Maine Maritime outshot UMPI 11-3 but few of those opportunities were quality shots as the Owls keeper (Billie Martin (Caribou, ME) was forced to make only 2 saves in the match. The MMA defense was equally outstanding, as the back line of Megan Russell (Peru, ME), Jess Stahl (Bowdoin, ME), Dana Innis (Harpswell, ME), and Sarah Radmore (Mexico, ME) gave up only 3 shots, with none of those shots going on goal.
Lacey Jackson (York, PA) earned the shutout and the tie, improving her record to 3-5-1 on the year. Billie Martin recorded the tie for UMPI and the Owls improved to 3-1-2 on the season.
Next up for the Lady Mariners (3-5-1) is a weekend in Vermont as they take on the Johnson State Badgers on Saturday at 3pm and then travel to Lyndon State College on Sunday for a 2pm start.
