Lady Mariners lose to UMFK 2-1

Castine, Maine - Freshman midfielder Whitney Sinclair (Dexter, ME) broke a 1-1 tie early in the second half, propelling UMaine Fort Kent to a 2-1 lead over Maine Maritime Academy in a non-conference women's soccer game Wednesday evening.

Sophomore striker, Brianne McGary (Hodgdon, ME) broke a scoreless tie at the 28:00 minute mark, giving UMaine Fort Kent a 1-0 lead over MMA. The Lady Mariners got the equalizer in the 34th minute when Diana Manatt-Rogers (Conway, MA) took a cross from sophomore defender Jess Stahl (Brunswick, ME) and headed it past the keeper into the goal to notch the score at 1-1. The score remained tied going into the half.

The Bengals got the game winning goal in the 63rd minute when freshman midfielder Whitney Sinclair gathered a loose ball at the top of the box and lofted it over the MMA keeper for the 2-1 lead and eventual win.

Lacey Jackson (York, PA) took the loss for MMA making 3 saves on 11 shots. Kayla Daigle (Frenchville, ME) picked up the win for the Bengals improving to 3-0 on the season. Daigle made four saves on 16 shots.

Next up for the Lady Mariners (1-3-0) is an away game against the UMaine Presque Isle Saturday at 12:00 am.
