Maine Maritime shuts out Wheelock
BOSTON, MA— Freshman midfielder Katie Hutchinson (Dixfield, ME) had one goal and one assist as the Maine Maritime College women’s soccer team shut out Wheelock College, 2-0 on Sunday morning at Pine Manor College.
After a scoreless first half, the Mariners tacked on two goals in the 52nd and 72nd minute for the final scoring margin. Maine-Maritime striker Diana Manatt-Rogers (Conway, MA) got the scoring started when she knocked home a cross from Hutchinson. Hutchinson added the insurance goal with her own goal off a cross from fellow forward Christina Best (Pictured Left).
Freshman goalie Lacey Jackson (York, PA) picked up the shutout (5th) and her 8th win while making two saves for the Lady Mariners.
Melinda Ortega (Hialeah, FL) made 9 saves for Wheelock. The Wildcats dropped to 3-8 (1-6 North Atlantic Conference) on the season while Maine Maritime improved to 8-5 (4-4 NAC).
