Lady Mariners lose 3-1 to UMaine Farmington

Castine, Maine - The Maine Maritime Women’s Soccer team hosted the Beavers of UMaine Farmington in a NAC contest Wednesday night. The Lady Mariners lost the match 3-0 and dropped to 7-4 overall and 3-3 in NAC play. Farmington moves to 7-3 overall and 5-0 in NAC play.

UMF got on the scoreboard at the 22:15 mark when Chelsea Norton (Westbrook, ME) collected the rebound after a great Lacey Jackson (York, PA) save and tucked it between the keeper and the post for the early 1-0 lead. UMF struck again in the 32nd minute when Amanda Byrne (Winslow, ME) took a pass from Melissa St. Amand (Windsor, ME) at the edge of the box and lofted it over the MMA keeper for the score and the 2-0 lead. The Beavers out shot MMA 15-1 as they took a 2-0 lead into the half.

The Beavers notched their third goal of the game at the 48:05 minute mark when Chelsea Norton scored her second unassisted goal to put UMF up 3-0. MMA scored with 23 seconds left in the game when Katie Hutchinson (Dixfield, ME) converted on a breakaway and ended the shut out bid by the Beavers. The game ended at 3-1 and MMA was out shot by the Beavers 24-3 on the game.

Lacey Jackson (York, PA) took the loss in goal for MMA moving to 7-4 on the season. Kerry Kowalczyk (Topsham, ME) got the win for UMF making 2 saves on 2 shots. Ashley Holshouser (Berwick, ME) played the last 15 minutes in goal for UMF and faced one shot and gave up the only goal by the Beavers.

Next up for the Lady Mariners is an away match against Bay Path College on Saturday October 6th at 1:00pm, and next up for the Beavers is an away match against Lesley University on the 6th of October.
