Lady Mariners dominate Clippers on the way to a 6-0 victory
Machias, Maine - For only the second time in the programs history, the Maine Maritime Women’s Soccer team has started a season 2-0-0. Tonight's 6-0 victory over the Clippers of UMM, marks the second year in a row that MMA has scored more than 6 goals against Machias while giving up none.
MMA got on the scoreboard in the first five minutes of the match when Katie Hutchinson (Dixfield, ME) found Meghan McKay (Old Town, ME) for a goal to get the Lady Mariners out to the 1-0 lead. After several missed opportunities, Diana Manatt-Rogers (Conway, MA) scored MMA's second goal at the 26 minute mark. The onslaught continued for MMA as they tallied two more goals to go up by a score of 4-0 before the half, one by Lindsey Comeau (Medford, MA) and one by Christina Best (Portland, ME). The second half featured much of the same as MMA got goals from Amy Preble (Hartland, ME), and a second goal from senior Lindsey Comeau to finish the scoring.
MMA dominated play out shooting the Clippers 29-2 for the match. Lacey Jackson (York, PA) got the win in goal for MMA upping her record to 2-0 on the season. Amanda Andrews played the second half in goal for the Lady Mariners and faced the only two shots Machias had in the match.
