Lady Mariners win 5-0 over Becker
Castine, Maine - The Maine Maritime Women’s Soccer team hosted the Hawks of Becker College in a NAC contest Sunday. The Lady Mariners won the match 5-0 and move to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in NAC play. Becker falls to 0-10-1 overall and 0-6 in NAC play.
It was MMA who got on the scoreboard first at the 4 minute mark when Katie Hutchinson (Dixfield, ME) slid the ball by the keeper into the far right corner to put MMA up 1-0. Lindsey Comeau (pictured left) set up the goal as she passed to Hutchinson breaking her free to goal, giving the Lady Mariners the lead. MMA struck again at the 21:09 mark when Lindsey Comeau was on the receiving end of a Diana Manatt-Rogers (Conway, MA) pass and scored to put the Lady Mariners up 2-0.
The Lady Mariners notched their third goal of the game with 21 minutes left in the half. The goal was scored by Meghan McKay (Old Town, ME), off a cross by Amy Preble (Hartland, ME) to put MMA ahead 3-0. MMA scored again when Hutchinson found the back of the net for her second goal of the game. Preble collected her second assist of the day on the goal. MMA entered the half with a 4-0 lead.
The Lady Mariners scored the only goal of the second half at the 71:41 mark, when Diana Manatt-Rogers collided with the keeper, and then collected the loose ball inside the 6, and tucked it by the keeper for the 5-0 lead. The game ended at 5-0 and MMA out shot the Hawks 20-1 on the game.
Lacey Jackson (York, PA) got the win in goal for MMA moving to 7-3 on the season. Jackson recorded her 4th shutout and made 1 save on 1 shot. Amanda Andrews (Fairfield, ME) saw the last 20 minutes of action in goal for MMA but did not face a shot. Caitlin Faunce took the loss for Becker making 10 saves on 14 shots.
Next up for the Lady Mariners is an a home game against UMaine Farmington on Wednesday October 3rd at 7:00pm, and next up for the Hawks is a home game against Mount Ida College on the 4th of October.
