Craig Dagan
Head Coach
Coach Dagan is entering his seventh season as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Maine Maritime Academy. During his 6 years at the helm, the Lady Mariners have won 2 North Atlantic Conference Tournament titles, 3 NAC Regular Season titles, and have made 3 straight trips to the NCAA Division III National Tournament. The 2006 squad won a school record 25 games and defeated the #1 ranked team in the country, Bowdoin, ending their 76 game home winning streak. In 2005, Dagan was named the NAC Co-Coach of the Year after guiding his team to a 24-5 record.

Under Coach Dagan’s guidance the Lady Mariner Basketball program has gone 119-45 (.725%), which puts him at the top of the heap for wins in the programs short history. His teams have dominated NAC play winning 80 conference games over the past 6 years while losing only 16. Known for their tough defensive philosophy, the Lady Mariners have finished in the top 10 nationally in field goal percentage defense, and scoring defense four times. MMA has also been ranked #1 nationally in rebound margin in 2002, 2004, and again in the 2006 season.

Many of Coach Dagan’s players have been recognized with individual honors over the past 6 years. These honors have included conference, state, and regional recognition. He has coached 3 Rookies of the Year (Stacy Jones, Julia Knights, and Shelley Gott) in the NAC, 4 NAC Players of the Year (Julia Knights, Alyssa Burns in 2005, 2006, and again in 2007), 2 NAC Tournament MVP’s (Kate Lawler & Shelley Gott), and 13 different conference all-stars. The Lady Mariners have had 10 1st Team All-Conference selections under the guidance of Coach Dagan.

This past season the program went 25-4 while posting a 15-2 NAC regular season record. They made it to the NAC Tournament Championship game before losing to NAC rival UMF in a contest that came down to the last shot. Despite the loss, MMA got an at large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Lady Mariners were ranked as high as 19th in the nation and 4th regionally. The Lady Mariners won the inaugural Maritime Tournament beating SUNY Maritime and California Maritime. The 2006-07 squad also won the Keene State Holiday Tournament defeating Worcester State and then host Keene State in double over-time.

Prior to his arrival at MMA, Dagan served as an assistant coach for two years at Springfield College (Springfield, MA) and for five years at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. His successes as an assistant coach have included coaching in three NCAA tournaments and a career total of more than 130 wins.

Craig is a native of South Berwick, Maine. He received an Associates Degree from Southern Maine Technical College in 1991, where he played basketball, volleyball, and baseball. He then went on to the University of Massachusetts where he played basketball and golf while getting his Bachelors degree in Business. In 2001 Craig received his Master's Degree in Athletic Administration from Springfield College.

Craig also served as the Head Women's Soccer Coach at MMA from 2001 to 2006. In 2003 Craig was named NAC Soccer Coach of the Year. His soccer teams had combined for a 43-32-8 record over the last 5 seasons, including 5 straight NAC playoff appearances. Dagan left the soccer position at MMA to become the Sports Information Director for the athletic department.

Katrina Dagan
Associate Head Coach

Katrina begins her seventh season as the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at Maine Maritime Academy. Prior to working at MMA, Katrina was a high school health education teacher and an assistant coach at Springfield College for three seasons.

Originally from Scarborough, Maine, Katrina attended Springfield College and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in 1998 and her Master of Education Degree in 2000. While at Springfield, she was a four-year performer and three-year starter at the guard position for the Pride.

Katrina's duties include recruiting, scouting of opponents, development of the Lady Mariner guards, and planning of practices. In her six seasons at Maine Maritime, Dagan has been responsible for developing several outstanding guards. She has coached several North Atlantic Conference all-stars, and continues to help improve a seasoned group of players.

"Katrina is the backbone of this program," says Head Coach Craig Dagan. "She has done a wonderful job over the past six years. Her experience as a player and as a coach has proved to be very valuable to our program."

Katrina also serves as the Senior Women’s Administrator, Head Softball Coach, and Head Women’s Volleyball Coach at Maine Maritime Academy. Her teams are renowned for the tenacity and enthusiasm with which they play. Katrina is an excellent motivator and whether it is in volleyball, softball, or basketball, she expects her teams to compete to the best of their ability.

Katrina has guided the Lady Mariner Volleyball team for the past five seasons, including an 18-8 record in 2005, the best in school history. The 2006 volleyball team went 14-8 including a second consecutive trip to the NAC semifinals.

Katrina is currently in the process of rebuilding a young MMA softball program, though if past results in other sports are anything to go by, it should not be long before the Mariner softball program is competing at a high level.
