Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA)
The MWBCA was founded in 1994 to help promote women’s basketball in the State of Maine. The MWBCA has many functions which include weekly score reporting, player & rookie of the week superlatives, honor roll, milestones, etc.. Year end awards include First & Second Team All-State, All-Rookie Team, Statistical leaders, Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Coach of the Year. The organization is made up of NCAA Division 3 and NAIA four year colleges/universities from ther state of Maine

February 15, 2010 Co-Players of the Week
Jessie Igoe, Bates (Jr. Lexington, MA)
Bate’s Jessie Igoe collected a career high 22 points, 11 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals in a 71-55 win over #14 ranked Tufts University on Saturday. Igoe went 6-for-15 from the floor and shot 10-for-11 from the free throw line in the victory. The win was Bates first victory over a nationally ranked team since January of 2006.
Shelby Bradford, Husson (Sr. Lee, ME)
Bradford continued her stellar senior season for the Eagles, helping them to a 3-0 week on the road. The senior forward averaged 19.3 points, 13 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 2 steals. She also shot 56% (18-for-32) from the floor and 21-for-28 from the foul line. Bradford led the Eagles to a win over Maine Maritime after the Eagles had fell behind by 15 points in the first half.

February 15, 2010 Rookie of the Week
Curran Leighton, USM (Fr. Dover, NH)
USM’s Curran Leighton averaged 22 points, 8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 1.5 steals in a 2-0 week. She shot 56.7% from the floor, 80% from the foul line, and 33% from three-point range. Leighton collected her 7th 20-point game of the year after dropping 25 points in a win against Rhode Island College. She went 11-for-15 from the field in the process. She also scored 19 points in a road win at Plymouth State.

February 8, 2010 Co-Players of the Week
Rachael Mack, Colby (So. Augusta, ME)
Colby’s Rachael Mack averaged 13.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks as the Mules went 3-0 on the road this past week. Mack shot 56% (14-for-25) from the floor and 86% from the foul line. She hit a game tying basket with one second left in regulation to send the game into overtime against Williams. Trailing by one point in OT, Mack scored four straight points to give the Mules the lead and win. Mack also led the Mules in victories over USM and Middlebury.
Caitlyn Laflin, UMF (Sr. Farmingdale, ME)
Laflin had an outstanding week for the Beavers despite their two losses. The senior forward averaged 19 points, 20 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 3.5 blocks, and 2.5 steals. She also shot 52% from the floor and 7-for-9 from the foul line. She made three of the five three’s she attempted this week as well.

Curran Leighton, USM (Fr. Dover, NH)
The rookie forward had another outstanding week for the Huskies. She averaged 23.5 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals in a 1-1 week. She shot 48.8% from the floor and 73.7% from the foul line. Leighton led USM in scoring both games including her 6th 20-point game this year.

Katie Bergeron, Bowdoin (Jr. - Bradley, ME)
Bergeron led the Polar Bears to a 2-1 week in which she averaged 17.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 2 steals per game. The junior guard shot 38% from the floor and 88% (22-for-25) from the free throw line. Bergeron ended her week with a game winning shot with 45 seconds left in a thrilling 53-52 win over Trinity.
Lauren Yanofsky, Bates (Sr. - Belmont, MA)
Yanofsky helped the Bobcats to a 2-0 week in which she averaged 21 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, and 2.5 steals. The senior shot 50% from the floor (17-for-34) and set a career high in points in her teams win over Conn College.

Diana Manduca, Colby (Fr. Portland, ME)
Manduca shot 78% (7-for-9) from three point range and 87% (13-for-15) from the foul line in a 2-1 week for the White Mules. Her 18 points against #2 ranked Amherst was a team high. She averaged 14 points, 2.66 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals for the week.

January 25, 2010 Player of the Week
Shelby Bradford, Husson (Sr. Lee, ME)
Husson College's Shelby Bradford averaged 19.3 points, 17.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.67 steals in a 3-0 week for the Eagles. Bradford also became the schools leading scorer surpassing the previous mark of 1,325 points. The senior forward had 21 points and 22 rebounds in a win over UMaine Farmington and then scored a basket with .8 seconds left on the clock to give the Eagles a hard fought win over Castleton on Saturday. Bradford shot 44% from the floor for the week.

Morgan Chasse, UMaine Fort Kent (Fr. Veazie, ME)
Chasse had her best stretch of games in her short career in UMFK’s 3-0 week. The freshman guard averaged 16 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3.66 steals per game. She shot 66 percent from the floor (19-for-29) and 67% from beyond the arc (6-for-9).

January 18, 2010 Player of the Week
Julianne Kowalski, Colby (Jr. Montville, NJ)
Colby College's Julianne Kowalski averaged 13.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and had no turnovers as the Mules beat eighth-ranked Bowdoin and Bates. Kowalski had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds in the win against Bates. Kowalski had 10 points and seven rebounds in the second half as the Mules turned a 43-41 halftime lead into a comfortable win against Bates. She followed that with 10 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks in the win against Bowdoin. Once again Kowalski had a big second half with six points and six rebounds to help turn a 31-29 halftime deficit into an upset victory over the NESCAC defending champs.

Curran Leighton, Southern Maine (Fr. Dover, NH)
Leighton nearly averaged a double-double with 13.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game in a 1-1 week on the road for USM. She had her sixth double-double of the season with a team-best 18 points and 11 rebounds against Rhode Island College. She played an entire 40 minutes for the Huskies against RIC. Against Eastern, she had eight points and eight rebounds.

Caitlin Laflin, UMF (Sr. Farmingdale, ME)
Laflin torched the nets in UMF’s two games this week averaging 29 points on 22-for-36 shooting (61%). She also averaged 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 3.5 steals in their 2-0 week, which included a win over Plymouth State College. She also made 4 three’s and 10 free throws for the week
Kaylie DeMillo, USM (Jr. Jay, ME)
Demillo helped lead USM to a 3-0 week by averaging 20 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6 assists, and 1.67 steals. She set a career high with 8 assists against Regis and then had 27 points in an overtime win against Husson in which she scored 7 of her team’s 11 points in the second overtime. She also connected on 11 three pointers in her three games this week.

Curran Leighton, Southern Maine (Fr. Dover, NH)
Leighton averaged 20 points, 13 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.3 blocks ands 1.3 steals per game in three wins for Southern Maine. Leighton established career bests in points and rebounds during the week, netting a career-high 27 points against UMass Dartmouth and grabbing 14 rebounds against Regis College. She recorded a trio of double-doubles during the week. She shot 44.8 percent (22-for-49) from the field and 81.2 % from the free throw line. She also was 3-for-5 from three-point range. She has 10 pts, 14 rebounds against Regis, 23 points and 12 rebounds at Husson and 27 points and 13 rebounds at UMass Dartmouth.

Carrie Bunnell, University of New England (Jr. Barnet, VT)
Bunnell scored 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting including a three pointer at the buzzer to propel UNE to a thrilling 77-75 victory over Bates in their only game last week. The junior guard made 5-of-7 threes and collected five rebounds in 23 minutes of action. Her five three’s were a career high.

The freshman guard averaged 11.5 points, 3 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 3.5 steals per game in a 2-0 week for Bowdoin. She shot a solid 55.6 percent from the field and was 1-for-2 from the free throw line. In Bowdoin’s win over Salve Regina, Donahoe scored 16 points to go along with six assists and three steals.

Bradford was outstanding in her team’s two wins this week. Shelby averaged 18 points, 10 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 4.5 steals in a 2-0 week for Husson. The senior forward shot 62% from the floor, 1-for-1 from beyond the arc and was 4-for-5 from the free throw line. Bradford led the Eagles to a convincing 92-67 win over St. Joe’s with 22 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals.

The freshman forward averaged 14.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, .5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game in a 2-0 week for USM. She shot a solid 47.6 percent from the field and was 6-for-8 from the free throw line. In USM’s win over Salem State Leighton scored 14 of her 19 points in a crucial second half run that helped lead the Huskies back from a 7 point deficit.

Leah Rubega, Bowdoin College (Sr. Norwich, CT)
Rubega led the Polar Bears to a couple of road wins over instate rivals USM and Colby last week. The senior forward posted a pair of double-doubles and connected on 65% of her attempts from the field. Rubega averaged 16 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2.5 steals on the week.
Annie Burns, Bates College (So. Topsfield, MA)Annie Burns led the Bobcats to a 4-0 week and was named the Tournament MVP at the Ed Hockenbury Classic hosted by Norwich. Burns was the catalyst for a Bates team that averaged 76 points in the four games. She averaged 6.5 points, 4.25 steals, and an amazing 7.3 assists per game.

Gould came off the bench to score 19 points on 7 of 9 shooting in Bowdoin’s win over UNE. Gould led the Bowdoin bench who outscored the UNE reserves 47-6. She made 4 three’s in the win.
Alison Cappelloni, Colby College (Sr. - Sudbury, MA)
Cappelloni continued her impressive start to 2009 scoring 21 points and grabbing 8 rebounds in Colby’s victory over UMF. The senior was 6 for 13 from the floor and was 6 for 6 from the free throw line. She was also 3 for 4 from beyond the arc.

Hynes was named MVP of the Eastern Conn. Tip-Off Tournament. In addition to averaging 15 ppg, she did not commit a turnover in 56 minutes of play. She shot 12 for 23 from the field, collected 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 5 blocks in the two wins. Bowdoin is ranked seventh in the latest D3Hoops.com National Poll.
