NAC Women’s Basketball All-Conference Teams Announced
For the second consecutive season, Husson's Shelby Bradford was selected as the North Atlantic Conference Player of the Year in a vote by the league's coaches. The senior forward was recently named an ESPN Second Team Academic All-American, one of five student-athletes in the country to receive this prestigious award. Bradford led the league shooting 53.5% while pulling down a 12.5 rebounds and scoring 17.4 points as Husson earned the top seed in the upcoming NAC Women's Basketball tournament. Bradford, who was one of three women to repeat as first team all-conference selections, was among the top 10 in field goal percentage, free throw percentage, rebounds, assists, steals and points.
University of Maine-Farmington senior forward Caitlyn Laflin earned her fourth consecutive all-conference honor. Laflin, the 2007-08 NAC Player of the Year and 2006-07 NAC Rookie of the Year, was third in the league in scoring averaging 18.3 points along with 9.8 rebounds while shooting 52% from the floor and 83.3% from the free throw line. Laflin was also among the league leaders in blocks and assists.
Husson forward Bree Hanscom was a first team all-conference selection for the second season in a row. Hanscom, the 2008-09 NAC Rookie of the Year, averaged 14. 5 points in conference contests with 8.0 rebounds while shooting 51.4% from the field.
After leading the conference in scoring, Thomas sophomore guard Karin Bird earned first-team all-conference honors. Bird scored 20.1 points per game including scoring efforts of 36 in a win against Lyndon State and 29 in a win over Green Mountain.
Maine Maritime sophomore forward Sam Goda rounds out the first-team selections. Goda led her Mariners to an 11-3 conference mark with 10.5 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. The sophomore was one of the most efficient from the field hitting 44.7% of her shots.
Lyndon State first year forward Donna Lawson was named the NAC Rookie of the Year. Lawson, averaged 16.6 points and 11.5 rebounds in conference play. The first year was ranked in the top 5 in field goals made, rebounds, blocks, points and free throw percentage
Kissy Walker was honored as NAC Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season. Walker's Eagles did not lose a game during the conference regular season, a feat accomplished only three other times the last in 2006-07 by Maine-Farmington.
Green Mountain College was honored with the Team Sportsmanship Award. NAC all-conference selections are determined by a vote of the conference coaches. Additional players honored are due to ties in the voting.
