Lady Mariners cruise to win over Terriers

WATERVILLE, ME—Thomas College Lady Terriers welcomed the Lady Mariners of Maine Maritime into Larry Mahaney Gymnasium on Tuesday evening, and ended up dropping the contest by a score of 83-70. MMA used a balanced attack and shot 50% from the floor en route to the 13-point victory.

The Lady Mariners would jump out to an early 10-2 lead in the opening minutes of the contest and they wouldn’t relinquish their lead for the rest of the night. After Maine Maritime finished the first half strongly, Thomas would trail by a score of 45-28.

While the Terriers would attempt to climb back into the game, the Lady Mariners always had an answer and their lead in the second half would never be less than thirteen points.

Thomas was led by Kellie Martel (So., Cambridge, ME) and Amy Miles (Sr., Waldo, ME) who were able to chalk up 17 points a piece on the evening. Following them were Jess Nassetta (Jr., Standish, ME) and Mallorie Blakney (So., Fairfield, ME) who would add 10 points each. Blakney would also lead the team in rebounds on the night, pulling down six.

The Lady Mariners had a very evenly spread offense, with four players also scoring in double figures and many other team members contributing for the win. Tatum Welch (So., Newport, ME) would lead the team with 15 points and a game high 11 rebounds. Samantha Goda (Fr., Eliot, ME) would add 12 points in the win, while Elizabeth Cote (So., Brewer, ME) and Jessica Stahl (So., Bowdoin, ME) would toss in 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Thomas will continue their NAC schedule on Saturday when they welcome Husson University into Larry Mahaney Gymnasium for a 2:00 p.m. start. Maine Maritime’s next game will come on Saturday as well when they travel to face the University of Maine at Farmington in a 3:00 p.m. start.
