Eagles Battle Past MMA 66-57
Bangor, Maine Husson battled their way to a 66-57 win over NAC rival Maine Maritime Academy at Newman Gym. Shelby Bradford (Jr, Lee, ME) recorded her 14th double double on the season to pace the Eagles, with 18 points and 15 rebounds.
The two teams fought throughout the first half as Husson carved out the biggest lead of the first half 24-17 with 9:59 remaining. Bree Hanscom (FY, Mattawamkeag, ME) made two foul shots to give them the 7 point edge. Maine Maritime came back trailing 29-23 with 3:41 to play in the half to tie the score 29-29 with 1:10 remaining on Jessica Stahl (So, Bowdoin, ME) two foul shots. Despite only shooting 25.8% from the field Husson went into the locker room up 33-31.
In the second half, the Eagles heated up shooting 45.5% from the floor against Maine Maritime’s 26.7%. Husson used a 9-3 run to push a 47-44 lead to 56-47 with 6:20 remaining. Bradford capped off the game breaking run with a lay-up off a feed from Laura Archer (Sr, Ellsworth, ME). Archer played a solid all around game finishing with 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists. Bethany Sevey (So, Skowhegan, ME) tallied 12 points while Ashley Bragdon (Jr, Newport, ME) came off the bench for 10 points and 8 rebounds.
Maine Maritime was paced by Tatum Welch (So, Newport, ME) who had a game high 24 points and 18 rebounds. Elizabeth Cote (So, Brewer, ME) finished with 9 points and 5 rebounds. Maine Maritime is now 7-14 (3-7 NAC).
Husson has now won 7 straight and 10 out of their last 11, pushing their record to 13-7 (9-1 NAC).
Both teams next play on Friday, February 13th at 8:00 pm. Husson will host Johnson State while Maine Maritime will host Lyndon State.
