Lady Mariners lose to Green Mountain 54-50

The Green Mountain College women's basketball team turned a one-point halftime advantage into a (54-50) victory over the visiting Mariners from Maine Maritime Friday night. With the victory, the Eagles improve to (5-8) in conference play and move into a tie for fourth place with one game remaining.

GMC led for the majority of the second half in large part to excellent free throw shooting. The Eagles were 13 of 15 from the charity stripe while MMA only made 4 trips to the line in the second stanza.

Green Mountain was led by a trio of double-digit scorers. Senior Brittany Holden (Schenectady, NY) collected 18 points while fellow senior Natalie Clark (West Palm Beach, FL) added 17 on 6 for 14 shooting. Junior Emma Buckley (Lakeville, CT) chipped in with 12 points and 10 boards.

The Mariners were led by sophomore Tatum Welch (Newport, ME) who collected a team-high 18 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman Samantha Goda (Eliot, ME) added 16 points in the losing effort.

The Eagles return to action tomorrow afternoon against Husson University while MMA travels to Castleton. Tip-off for both games is 4pm.
