MAINE MARITIME CRUISES PAST UMF, 65-40

Castine, Maine – The Lady Mariners improve to 11-2 in conference play with the 65-40 victory over the Beavers from UMaine Farmington. The score was 34-22 at half time and the Mariners out scored UMF 31-18 in the second half to secure the win.

The Lady Mariners had three players in double figures led by Megan Franklin (pictured left) who scored 11 points and grabbed 8 rebounds while Tatum Welch (Newport, ME) scored 10 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in the win. Brittany Hunt (Hickory, NC) also played well in the victory scoring 10 points while connecting on 3 shots from beyond the arc. Amanda Barker (Waterville, ME) continued her stellar play scoring 9 points while Kelsi Eiane (Harpswell, ME) finished the game with 5 steals.

Jillian Ross (Belfast, ME) led Farmington with 15 points and 6 rebounds in the loss. Ashley Busque (Belgrade, ME) also played well in the loss scoring 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds while Erin Porter (Bangor, ME) scored 8 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.

The Lady Mariners dominated the boards out-rebounding the Beavers 51-35 on the game including 23 offensive boards. MMA’s defense held the Beaver’s to 26% shooting from the floor and forced 31 turnovers on the evening.

With the win the Lady Mariners improve to 16-8 (11-2) and will be back in action February 22nd when they travel to Husson College for a 6pm start. The Beavers fell to 10-12 (7-5) and will be back in action Friday and Saturday when they host Bay Path College and Lesley University.
