Welch and Dagan honored by Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association
Freshman forward Tatum Welch (Newport, ME) received her second post season award as she was named to the All-Rookie team by the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA). Last week Welch was named the NAC Rookie of the Year and a Honorable Mention All-Conference pick by the North Atlantic Conference coaches.
In her first season for the Lady Mariners, Welch helped the team to a 19-10 record and played outstanding until a late season injury ended her season. Welch averaged 8.2 points and 7.2 rebounds on the season while shooting just under 40% from the floor. She started 23 of the teams 29 games and averaged 22 minutes per contest. Welch is the 6th player in the programs history to receive Rookie of the Year honor by the NAC and the 4th player to be named to the All-Rookie team by the MWBCA.
Dagan was also honored by the MWBCA, as he was selected as the Coach of the Year after guiding a very young Maine Maritime squad to a 19-10 record. MMA earned it's fourth consecutive post season berth as the Lady mariners were selected to play in the ECAC Tournament. The Lady Mariners were 12-2 in NAC play an made it to the NAC Championship game for the 4th straight year. MMA has played for the NAC Championship in 6 of the 7 seasons Dagan has coached at MMA. In those 7 seasons Dagan had a combined record of 138-55. This was the first time Dagan has received this honor by the MWBCA.
