MAINE MARITIME CLINCHES EASTERN DIVISION TITLE WITH WIN OVER HUSSON

Bangor, Maine – The Lady Mariners improved to 12-2 in conference play and clinched the Eastern Division title with a 66-52 victory over the Eagles from Husson College. The score was 34-17 at half time and the Mariners used a balance attack in the second half to secure the win.

The Lady Mariners had three players in double figures led by Brittany Hunt (pictured left) who scored 16 points, including 3 three's, while Kaitlyn Leeman (Baileyville, ME) scored 11 points. Katie Pushard (Winthrop, ME) also played well in the victory scoring 10 points in just 12 minutes while going 6-6 from the free throw line. Megan Franklin (Skowhegan, ME) continued her stellar play scoring 6 points, grabbing 7 rebounds, dishing out 4 assists, and collecting 4 steals while Amanda Barker (Waterville, ME) finished the game with 5 steals.

Shelby Bradford (Lee, ME) led Husson with 16 points and 8 rebounds in the loss. Jenny Rollins (Corinth, ME) scored 9 points while Laura Archer (Ellsworth, ME) scored 6 points.

The Lady Mariners out-rebounded the Eagles 27-24 in the game and forced 22 Eagles turnovers. MMA’s defense held the Eagles to 34% shooting from the floor while shooting 50% for the game themselves.

With the win the Lady Mariners improve to 17-8 (12-2) and will be back in action February 26th when they host Elms College in the quarterfinal round of the NAC play-offs. The Eagles fall to 15-10 (11-3) and will be back in action Tuesday when they host Johnson State College in the play-offs.
