Maine Maritime beats Husson 66-52
Castine, Maine The Lady Mariners improve to 5-1 in conference play with the 66-52 victory over the Husson College Eagles. MMA held a 31-26 advantage at half time and pulled away from the Eagles early in the second half to secure the win. MMA held the Eagles to 34% shooting for the game and out-rebounded Husson 43-32 including 17 offensive rebounds.
The Lady Mariners were led by senior guard Kaitlyn Leeman (pictured left), who scored 12 points and dished out 4 assists. Tatum Welch (Newport, ME) also played well in the win scoring 11 points and grabbing 9 rebounds, while Katie Pushard (Winthrop, ME) had 10 points and 2 steals. Megan Franklin scored 7 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in the win.
Husson College was led by Jenny Rollins (Corinth, ME), who scored 16 points and dished 2 assists in the loss. Lindsey Barnes (Owls Head, ME) also played well in the loss scoring 8 points while Shelby Bradford (Lee, ME) scored 7 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.
With the win the Lady Mariners improve to 10-7 (5-1) and will be back in action February 1st when they travel to Elms College for a 6pm start. The Eagles fall to 9-7 (5-1) and will be back in action Friday when they travel to Becker College.
