Bowdoin beats Maine Maritime 70-56

Castine, Maine – The Polar Bears won their ninth game of the year with a 70-56 victory over the Lady Mariners Tuesday night. Bowdoin held a 36-27 advantage at half time and held off MMA in the second half to secure the 14-point win. MMA got within 7 points (38-31) with 17 minutes to play but couldn’t get over the hump en route to their 7th loss of the season.

Bowdoin was led by junior guard Alexa Kaubris (Rumford, ME), who scored 19 points and earned 4 steals in the win. Freshman guard Katie Bergeron (Bradley, ME) also played well in the win scoring 16 points and grabbing 4 rebounds while sophomore forward Caitlin Hynes (Owls Head, ME) scored 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.

Tatum Welch (Newport, ME) played outstanding for the Lady Mariners scoring 16 points including 2-2 from behind the arc and grabbing 4 rebounds. Megan Franklin (Skowhegan, ME) also played well in the loss scoring 14 points and grabbing 6 rebounds while Kaitlyn Leeman (Baileyville, ME) had 7 points and 2 steals.

With the win the Polar Bears improve to 9-4 and will be back in action January 18th when they travel to Williams College. The Lady Mariners fall to 6-7 and will be back in action Friday night when they host Lesley University at 8pm.
