Maine Maritime beats Becker 68-50, improves to 7-1 in NAC
Leicester, Mass. The Lady Mariners improved to 7-1 in conference play with the 68-50 victory over the Becker College Hawks. MMA held a 12-point advantage at half time and pulled away from the Hawks early in the second half to run away with the win. The Lady Mariner defense and balanced scoring was again the difference as their winning streak now reaches six games.
The Lady Mariners were led by freshman forward Amethyst Cousins (pictured left), who scored a career high 18 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Amanda Barker (Waterville, ME) and Ashley Tilton (Lubec, ME) also played well in the win scoring 8 points apeice. For the fifth straight game the Lady Mariners had 12 players score in a game and they continued to dominate the boards, out-rebounding Becker 39-26.
Becker College was led by Kristin Karat, who scored 16 points and dished 3 assists in the loss. Heidi Miller also played well in the loss scoring 13 points while Beth Pion scored 9 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
With the win the Lady Mariners improve to 12-7 (7-1) and will be back in action February 8th when they host Castleton State College for a 6pm start.
