MAINE MARITIME RUNS PAST BAY PATH, 90-27

Holyoke, MA, Feb. 15, 2008 – MMA freshman guard Amanda Barker (pictured left) recorded a career high, scoring 19 points and collecting 6 steals while fellow freshman Amethyst Cousins (Bass Harbor, ME) chipped in 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists en route to a 90-27 win over the Wildcats in Friday night’s North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women’s basketball game. The Lady Mariners had 11 players score and used a balanced attack which included the MMA bench outscoring the Wildcats’ bench 58-6 in the game.

Maine Maritime won its second straight game to improve to 14-8 overall, 9-2 NAC. Bay Path College fell to 2-18, 1-9 NAC.

The Lady Mariners were tied with the Wildcats 2-2 four minutes into the first before they went on a 45-12 run over the next 16 minutes top close out the half. MMA picked up right were they left off in the second half outscoring Bay Path 43-13 to run away with the 63 point win.

Freshman forward Ashley Tilton (Lubec, ME) also played well in the win scoring 10 points and grabbing 6 rebounds, while Tatum Welch (Newport, ME) added 10 points and 5 rebounds of her own.

The Wildcats were led by Chrissy Ordonya (Great Barrington, MA), scoring 17 points and grabbing 7 rebounds in the loss. The Lady Mariners defense was the story in the game, forcing 46 turnovers and collecting 28 steals.
