Lady Mariners beat Thomas 61-38
Castine, Maine The Lady Mariners won their first conference game of the year over the Terriers Saturday afternoon 61-38. MMA led 31-18 at the half and cruised to the 23-point victory. The Lady Mariners out rebounded the Terriers 48-34 and shot 38% from the floor while Thomas only managed to shoot 29.6% from the field. MMA played tremendous defense throughout the game, forcing the Terriers in to 25 turnovers.
Elizabeth Cote (Brewer, ME) led the way for the Lady Mariners scoring 21 points and grabbing 4 rebounds in only 19 minutes of action. Megan Franklin (Skowhegan, ME) played outstanding in the win scoring 7 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and dishing 2 assists. Tatum Welch (Newport, ME) had 7 points and 7 rebounds while Amethyst Cousins (Tremont, ME) added 6 rebounds and 4 steals in the win.
Thomas was led by Lea McNary’s (Marlborough, CT) 11 points and 9 rebounds in 27 minutes of action. Freshman forward Cortney Barett played well in the loss scoring 10 points. Karen Demers (Sanford, ME) added 6 points for the Terriers.
With the win the Lady Mariners improve to 5-2 and will be back in action Sunday when they travel to St. Joseph’s College in Standish. Thomas will be back on the court January 8th when they travel to Wentworth College.
