Maine Maritime, Husson dominate at LSC Quad-match

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — The Maine Maritime Academy and Husson University women’s volleyball teams earned two victories each at Saturday quad-match held at Stannard Gymnasium on the campus of Lyndon State College.

Maine Maritime 3, Lyndon State 0

In the opening match, the Mariners defeated the host Hornets by games scores of 25-14, 25-12 and 25-10.

Maritime’s Chelsea Ward led the way with 17 kills and three aces while teammate Amy Young chipped in 9 kills, two aces and three blocks. Jennifer Dixon had 33 assists for the winners and Lauren Sakahara collected 15 digs.

Kayla Brobst had three kills and five blocks for Lyndon, and the tandem of Morgan Reilly and Ally Ciaramitaro had seven assists and 16 digs, respectively.

Husson University 3, Johnson State 0

In its first match of the day, Husson rolled past Johnson State by scores of 25-8, 25-5 and 25-13.

Hannah Olstad and Kaitlyn Mackay had six kills each for the Eagles and Olstad collected a game-high six services aces. Michelle Smith amassed 13 digs for Husson and Marion Kish had 12 assists.

Beth Lilligreen had two kills for the Badgers and Kelly Dorohow had nine digs.

Maine Maritime 3, Johnson State 0

The Mariners, who are currently undefeated and in first place in the North Atlantic Conference, closed out their day with a shutout win over Johnson State. Maritime won the match 25-9, 25-8 and 25-21.

Ward was once again the dominant force with 12 kills in the match. Dixon had 23 assists and four aces in the contest and Sakahara had five digs. Young also collected three aces and six kills for the Mariners.

Jessica Pafumi had a team-high four kills for the Badgers, Kylie Van Etten earned six assists and Caitlin Mackey had two aces and 10 digs.

Husson 3, Lyndon State 0

In the nightcap, the Eagles defeated Lyndon State by scores of 25-14, 25-14 and 25-17.

McKay and Smith had nine kills each for Husson while Kish chipped in 20 assists and three aces. Rachel Voicechovski added three service aces and seven digs for the winners.

Brobst collected six kills and two aces for the Hornets, while Reilly and Ciaramitaro had two assists and 11 digs, respectively, in the loss.

Maine Maritime upped its record to 13-2 overall and 5-0 in the NAC while Husson moved to 8-10 overall and 4-1 in conference play. Lyndon State fell to 4-9 overall and 2-3 in the NAC and Johnson went to 0-8 overall on 0-5 in conference.
