Lady Mariners sweep NAC double header

Dixon outstanding in wins

Bangor, Maine - The Lady Mariner volleyball team traveled to Bangor for two North Atlantic Conference contests, Green Mountain College and Castleton State College. MMA won both matches and improve to 2-0 in the NAC and 8-1 overall.

In the first match the Lady Mariners beat Castleton State College by the score of 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, and 25-10). Amy Young (Cumberland, ME) (2 blocks) and Chelsea Ward (Homer, AK) led MMA with 7 and 12 kills respectively. Heather Moore (Macedon, NY) and Stephanie DeHaven (Reisertown, MD) added 5 kills apiece. Freshman setter Jenn Dixon (Woodstock, MD) had 30 assists. Lauren Sakahara (Bellevue, WA) had a team high 14 digs and 5 service aces for the Lady Mariners.

The second match of the day featured the Lady Mariners and Green Mountain College going head to head. MMA dominated play and won the match 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-18). Amy Young and Chelsea Ward once again led the Lady Mariners with 10 and 11 kills, while Kayley Rodriguez (Quincy, IL) added 5 of her own. Jenn Dixon was outstanding in the match collecting 32 assists while Lauren Sakahara collected 16 digs. Ward and Young each had a block while Ward picked up 12 digs.

The win moves MMA to 8-1 on the season and 2-0 in the NAC

Next up for the Lady Mariners is an away match against Bates on September 25th at 7pm.
