Lady Mariner Volleyball splits at St. Joe's
Standish, Maine - The Lady Mariner Volleyball team traveled to St. Joseph's College for two non-conference matches (UMaine Fort Kent & St. Joesph’s College) Saturday and came away with a win and a loss.
In the first match the Lady Mariners beat UMaine Fort Kent by the score of 3-1 (25-9, 21-25, 25-10, and 25-20). Amy Young (Cumberland, ME) led MMA with 9 kills, 9 digs, and 4 aces while freshman outside hitter Kayley Rodriguez (Quincy, IL) added 9 kills, 5 digs, and 3 aces. Heather Moore (Macedon, NY) had 21 assists and 5 aces while Kristi Gordon (Auburn, ME) had 4 kills and 7 service aces. The win improved MMA’s record to 7-6 on the year while the Bengals drop to 2-5 on the season.
The second match of the day for the Lady Mariners was against St. Joe’s College. It was a seesaw match that the Monks eventually captured in 5 games by the score of 3-2 (18-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-19, and 10-15). Nicole St. Pierre (Baileyville, ME) played her best match of the young season collecting 13 kills with only 1 attack error. Young also played well collecting 8 kills, 5 assists, 3 aces, and 15 digs, while Kayley Rodriguez and Kristi Gordon had 7 kills and 8 kills respectively. Heather Moore had a season high 35 assists in the match. Lauren Sakahara (Bellevue, WA) and Kayley Rodriguez broke and now share a school record, after they each tallied 31 digs in the match. Sakahara had the previous mark which she set last weekend with 30 digs against Green Mountain College.
Next up for the Lady Mariners is an away match against conference rival Husson College on October 1st in Bangor. This will be a battle of the top two teams in the NAC.
