Lady Mariners sweep NAC double header

Castine, Maine - The Lady Mariner volleyball team hosted two North Atlantic Conference opponents Thomas College and UMaine Farmington.

In the first match the Lady Mariners beat Thomas College by the score of 3-0 (30-11, 30-12, 30-10). Amy Young (Cumberland, ME) led MMA with 8 kills and 7 aces. Michelle Ferry (Princeton, ME) added 5 kills, 18 digs, along with 8 aces, and Becca Allen (pictured right) had 17 assists. Kristi Gordon (Auburn, ME) and Nicole St. Pierre (Baileyville, ME) added 5 kills apiece for the Lady Mariners.

In the second match of the day, the Beavers of UMaine Farmington defeated the Terriers from Thomas College by the score of 3-0 (30-17, 30-12, 30-16). The win moved the Beavers record to 2-5 (1-0) on the season and the Terriers drop to 0-4 (0-2). Danielle O’Brien had 13 kills and 3 aces while Katie Allen had 12 assists, 3 kills, and 2 digs in the match.

The third match of the day featured the Lady Mariners and UMF going head to head. MMA controlled play and won the match 3-0 (30-18, 30-18, 30-22). Michelle Ferry and Amy Young once again led the Lady Mariners with 10 kills apiece. Ferry also had 17 digs, while Young had 11 digs and 6 aces. Becca Allen had 28 assists in the match and Kristi Gordon continued her inspired play with 7 kills. UMF was led by Megan Dube (7 kills) and Danielle O’Brien who had 6 kills, 10 digs and 2 blocks.

The win moves MMA to 4-3 on the season and 2-0 in the NAC, while UMF falls to 2-6 on the year and 1-1 in the NAC.

Next up for the Lady Mariners is an away match against UMaine Machias on September 19th at 7pm.
