2008 Season Preview

Once again the Lady Mariner softball team will feature a young line-up. Seven newcomers will play significant roles roles in the success of this year's squad.

Leading the way will be Amanda Barker (Waterville, ME) and Danielle Richard (Milford, ME). Barker and Richard make up the most talented pitching staff the program has ever seen. Both pitchers will be counted on to control batters and get outs for the defense behind them. The infield will see the addition of Brittany Hunt (Hickory, NC), Mallery Stanley (Standish, ME), and Asia Ross (Southwest Harbor, ME). Hunt is a solid defensive and offensive player that will lead the infield from the shortstop position. Stanley will secure second base while Ross will be used as a utility player. The outfield will be anchored by Meg Russell (Peru, ME). Russell's speed will be an asset both offensively and defensively for MMA. Brooke Winchester (Calais, ME) will also see time in the outfield.

Returning for the Mariners this season are Nicole Poland, Hillary Arris, Hannah Seamans and Samantha Rheaume. Nicole Poland (Damriscotta, ME) led last year's team in most offensive categories and was named the team's MVP. A solid defensive player, Poland will see time at third base and catcher. Hillary Arris (Falmouth, ME) returns to the team after taking two year's off. In 2005 Arris led the Lady Mariners with a .400 batting average. Arris will see time behind the plate but is capable of playing multiple positions. Hannah Seamans (Athens, ME) returns to first base and Sam Rheaume (Andover, NH) will see time in the outfield as well as the infield.

“Our team is young but we have more talent than we have had in the past. We have high expectations and the players have been working hard to improve and make this a successful season,” reports Coach Katrina Dagan.
