Lady Mariners Sweep Double Header at Newbury

Stanley earns 1st career win

The Lady Mariners swept a double header on Sunday, as they beat the Nighthawks from Newbury College 9-3 and 15-7 in a non-conference double header at Pine Manor College. Mallery Stanley (Standish, ME) earned both victories for MMA while first baseman Hannah Seamans (Athens, ME) went 5 for 8 on the day with 6 runs and 4 rbi's.

In the first game, freshman catcher Kayla Higgins (Sullivan, ME) led the MMA offensive attack with two hits and two rbi's while smashing her second home run of season en rout to the 9-3 victory.

Nicole Poland (Damariscotta, ME) and Hannah Seamans each collected two hits and both scored twice. Freshman outfielder Dana Houghton (Lee, ME) went 3 for 4 with 2 rbi's. Mallery Stanley got the start on the mound for MMA and gave up 7 hits, 5 walks and only 2 earned runs while striking out 2 in the win.





MMA 15 Newbury 7

In the second game, Maine Maritime improved to 2-7 on the season, winning the second game of the double header 15-7 in 5 innings over Newbury. The Lady Mariners belted out 16 hits and collected 13 rbi's in the 5 inning game that was called due to darkness.

MMA was led by Seamans, who once again had a stellar game at the plate. The junior first baseman went 3 for 4 with 4 runs scored and 3 rbi while Houghton contributed a 3 for 4 game with 2 runs and 2 rbi's. Freshman Ashley Hunt (Waldoboro, ME) collected 2 hits and 2 rbi's while Mallery Stanley went 3 for 3 with 2 rbi's and a home run. Stanley once again pitched her way to the victory, scattering 10 hits over the 5 innings.

MMA will be back in action when they host Thomas College on Wednesday the 8th. The first pitch of the double header will take place at 2pm.
