Lady Mariners swept by Fisher College to open 2009 season

Fisher 6 MMA 5

The 2009 Lady Mariners began their season with a tough loss at the hands of Fisher College on Friday afternoon.

Junior outfielder Nicole Poland (Damariscotta, ME) led the MMA offensive attack with two hits and two RBI's. Sophomore pitcher Mallery Stanley (Standish, ME) also collected 2 hits and an RBI in the loss while sophomore outfielder Megan Russell (Peru, ME) went 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Mallery Stanley made her collegiate debut on the mound for MMA and gave up only two hits but struggled to find the plate walking 14 Falcon batters.

The Falcons only mustered 3 hits but pitcher Jackie Streeter had the big blow in the second inning when she blasted a three run homer to give Fisher a 5-2 lead. Streeter got the win for the Falcons allowing 5 runs and 8 hits over 7 innings while striking out 7 MMA batters.

Fisher 10 MMA 9

Maine Maritime dropped to 2-0 on the season, losing their second consecutive one run game in as many days. The Lady Mariners were playing from behind all game but refused to go away trailing by as many as 6 runs going into the 5th inning. MMA scored 8 runs over the last 4 innings but it wasn't enough as the Falcons squeaked out the 10-9 victory.

MMA's offensive attack was led by freshman Dana Houghton (Lee, ME) who went 3 for 4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Kayla Higgins (Sullivan, ME) and Nicole Poland each collected 2 hits and an RBI while Megan Russell had 2 more hits and scored twice.

Brittany Calderon got the start and the win for Fisher going 3 innings, giving up only 3 hits and 1 run. Jackie Streeter pitched the last four innings giving up 9 hits and 8 runs while collecting her first save of the year.

The Falcon offensive attack was led by Streeter who went 3 for 5 with 2 RBI's. Three other Falcon players collected 2 hits in the game.

Fisher 13 MMA 4

The Lady Mariners finished off what was a tough opening weekend to their 2009 season with a 13-4 loss at the hands of the Fisher Falcons. The Falcons collected 10 hits and 13 walks on their way to the 9 run win.

Nicole Poland and Dana Houghton each collected 2 hits for MMA while Megan Russell collected 2 steals. Mallery Stanley once again struggled on the mound walking 13 batters.

Jackie Streeter got her 2nd win of the year for Fisher scattering 8 hits and giving up 3 walks over 5 innings. Streeter continued her hot start at the plate going 2 for 3 with 3 runs and 3 RBI's while Brittany Calderon had 1 hit and 4 RBI's in the win.
