Lady Mariners sweep double-header against Wheelock

The Lady Mariners started out their 2008 North Atlantic Conference schedule with a double header sweep of Wheelock College on Saturday.
Freshman hurler Amanda Barker (pictured left), once again dominated on the mound collecting 15 strikeouts and giving up just one hit in 7 innings. The 15 strikeouts breaks her own school record she held from her game against Fisher College on 3/15/08. Barker walked five in the game but did not give up an earned run and now hasn't given up an earned run in 17 innings pitched this season.
Freshman shortstop Brittany Hunt (Hickory, NC) went 2 for 4 with a run scored in the win while Danielle Richard (Milford, ME) went 1 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI. Barker helped her own cause at the place as well going 1 for 2 with a run scored.
Stacey Seidner (Pembroke, NH) took the loss for Wheelock giving up three earned runs on seven hits and three walks. Seidner had four strikeouts in her seven innings of work but was hurt by five Wheelock errors.
MMA 12 Wheelock 3
Maine Maritime improved to 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in the NAC behind a solid pitching effort from freshman Danielle Richard (Milford, ME). Richard picked up her first win of the season scattering 1 hit over 5 innings while striking out 9. Richard walked three batters but did not give up an earned run in the game.
Mallery Stanley (pictured left) led the Lady Mariners at the plate going 2 for 4 with two doubles and four RBI's. Hannah Seamans (Athens, ME) went 1 for 1 from the plate with two RBI's and a walk. Brittany Hunt (Hickory, NC) played well in the win going 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Freshman pitcher Nicole Zina (Bristol, RI) took the loss for the Wildcats as she gave up eight earned runs in five innings of work. Zina was 1 for 2 from the plate with an RBI and a run scored.
