Lady Mariners lose two to Farmington
Game 1: UMF 5 MMA 2 (8 innings)
The Lady Mariners fell to 6-9 overall and 4-9 in the NAC with a 5-2 loss in extra innings to UMaine Farmington on Wednesday afternoon at Ritchie Field. Farmington hurler Sarah Defilipp (Brewer, ME) picked up the win for the Beavers, giving up 10 hits and two runs over eight innings. Amanda Barker (Waterville, ME) was the hard luck loser again for the Lady Mariners who held at 1-0 lead through six innings but gave up the tying run in the top of the 7th before losing the game in the 8th inning. Barker scattered seven hits and two walks over the eight innings and struck out eight batters.
Hillary Arris (Falmouth, ME) led the way for MMA at the plate going 2 for 4 with a run scored and a triple. Amanda Barker and Megan Russell (Dixfield, ME) each had one hit for MMA while Brittany Hunt (pictured left) had one hit and an RBI.
Lauren Overlook (Belfast, ME) led the Farmington offense with a 2 for 4 afternoon including one run, two RBI’s and a big double put the game away in the last inning. Breanna Conners (Madison, ME) went 1 for 3 in the game with an RBI while Megan Goodrow (Oakland, ME) went 1 for 4 with an RBI. With the win, Farmington improves to 7-2 overall and 5-0 in NAC play.
Game 2: UMF 7 MMA 1
Maine Maritime dropped to 6-10 (4-10 NAC) on the season after falling to UMF 7-1. UMF held a 1-0 advantage going into the fourth inning before erupting for six runs and taking a 7-0 advantage before eventually winning 7-1. MMA got a solid pitching effort from freshman Danielle Richard (Milford, ME) but five unearned runs in the fourth inning put the game out of reach. Liz Bergeron (Milford, ME) got the win for the Beavers pitching seven innings while giving up five hits and striking out six. Richard scattered eight hits while striking out five for the Lady Mariners.
Amanda Barker (Waterville, ME) went 2 for 4 from the plate while Brittany Hunt (Hickory, NC) went 1 for 3 with a run scored in the loss. Pitcher Danielle Richard fell to 1-4 on the season. McKell Barnes (Brunswick, ME) led the way for UMF at the plate going 2 for 3 with an RBI while Kasey McPhail (Benton, ME) went 1 for 2 with and RBI and a run scored. UMF improves to 8-2 and 6-0 in the NAC with the double-header sweep of MMA.
