Lady Mariners sweep double-header from Johnson State

Freshman hurler Amanda Barker throws no-hitter

Game 1: MMA 8   Johnson State 0

The Lady Mariners improved to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the NAC with a 8-0 victory over Johnson State in 5 innings. Freshman pitcher Amanda Barker (pictured left) was the story of the day as she threw a no-hitter while striking out eight batters and only walking two. Barker faced the minimum 15 batters as the two lone base runners were thrown out attempting to steal.  Barker got plenty of offensive support as the Lady Mariners collected 10 hits while she improved to 4-1 on the season.

Danielle Richard (Milford, ME) led the way for MMA at the plate going 1 for 3 with two RBI’s. Mallery Stanley (Standish, ME) continued her hot weekend at the plate collecting three hits and scoring a run while Brittany Hunt (Hickory, NC) collected two hits and an RBI.

Johnson State College only managed two walks in the five innings and never had a runner get beyond first base. Sophomore pitcher Julie Gervais (Enosburg Falls, VT) gave up 10 hits and eight runs in 4 1/3 innings of work for Johnson. With the loss Johnson drops to 0-7 overall and 0-5 in the NAC.

Game 2: MMA 8   Johnson State 3

Maine Maritime improved to 6-2 (4-2 NAC) on the season behind another solid pitching effort from freshman Amanda Barker (Waterville, ME). Barker picked up her fifth win of the season scattering 6 hits over 7 innings while striking out a personal best and school record 15 batters. The three runs Johnson State scored were all unearned and Barkers earned run average dropped to 0.73 on the season.

Mallery Stanley (Standish, ME) once again did the job at the plate going 3 for 4 with two runs and an RBI. Nicole Poland (pictured left) had a good game at the plate as well collecting two hits, two runs and an RBI while Megan Russell (Dixfield, ME) went 2 for 2 with a run scored.

Julie Gervais (Enosburg Falls, VT) pitched well in the loss giving up nine hits and only three earned runs but was hurt by seven Johnson errors in the game. Allie Cunningham (Manchester, NH) led Johnson going 3 for 3 at the plate with two runs scored. Cunningham pitched the last 2/3 of an inning striking out the only two batters she faced. Johnson drops to 0-8 (0-6 NAC) with the loss.
