Lady Mariners lose heartbreaker to Husson
Game 1: Husson 8 MMA 1
The Lady Mariners fell to 6-3 overall and 4-3 in the NAC with an 8-1 loss to Husson College on Thursday afternoon at Ritchie Field. Freshman hurler Tammie Arsenault (Gorham, ME) pitched well picking up the win for the Eagles. Arsenault scattered four hits and did not walk a batter while striking out four over six innings. Amanda Barker (Waterville, ME) took the loss for the Lady Mariners who held at 1-0 lead through four innings but were hurt by five errors over the last three innings and surrendered all eight runs in that stretch.
Amanda Barker led the way for MMA at the plate going 1 for 3 with a run scored. Nicole Poland, Dani Richard, Hannah Seamans, and Megan Russell all had one hit in the game for MMA. Barker pitched seven innings and struck out eight batters but took the loss dropping to 5-2 on the season.
Megan Richard (Wilton, ME) led the Husson offense with a 2 for 2 afternoon including three runs, two RBI’s and a home run to put the game away in the sixth inning. Carolyn McAvoy (Brewer, ME) went 1 for 4 in the game with 2 RBI’s while Brittni Adams (Bucksport, ME) went 1 for 3 with two runs scored. With the win, Husson improves to 10-7 overall and 7-0 in NAC play.
Game 2: Husson 8 MMA 5
Maine Maritime dropped to 6-4 (4-4 NAC) on the season after a heart breaking loss to Husson 8-5. MMA held a 5-3 advantage going into the seventh inning before the Eagles erupted for five runs in the top of the seventh to win the game. MMA got another solid pitching effort from freshman Amanda Barker (Waterville, ME) but it wasn’t enough as Husson third baseman Jenny Rollins (Corinth, ME) got a two out base hit that drove in the game tying runs before Jenika Kelly (Jay, ME) hit a three run home run to put the game away and give the Eagles the comeback victory.
Hillary Arris (Falmouth, ME) went 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored for MMA while Megan Russell (Dixfield, ME) and Nicole Poland (Damariscotta, ME) both scored two runs apiece for the Lady Mariners. Barker took the loss and falls to 5-3 on the season.
Tammie Arsenault (Gorham, ME) pitched the final two innings for Husson and picked up her second win of the day. Freshman hurler Caitlin LeBourne (Scarborough, ME) started the game for the Eagles and went five innings giving up three hits, three walks and five runs. Jenika Kelly had a great game at the plate going 2 for 4 with three RBI’s and two runs scored while Jenny Rollins went 1 for 3 with two RBI’s. Shawna Bell (Corinth, ME) scored three runs in the win. Husson improves to 11-7 and 8-0 in the NAC.
