Lady Mariners sweep double-header to open 2008 season

MMA 16 Fisher 1
The new look Lady Mariners started out their 2008 campaign on the right foot beating Fisher College 16-1 in 5 innings.

Freshman pitcher Amanda Barker (pictured left), dominated on the mound collecting 11 strikeouts and giving up just one hit in 5 innings. The win was the first victory of her collegiate career. The 11 strikeouts breaks the previous school record for k's in a game which was held by Maegan Cloutier. Barker helped her own cause at the plate as well going 1 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI in the game.

Freshman outfielder Megan Russell (Dixfield, ME) scored three times in the win while Nicole Poland (Damariscotta, ME) led the team with three RBI's. Senior catcher Hillary Arris (Falmouth, ME) was outstanding as well going 2 for 2 from the plate with 2 RBI's and 3 runs scored. Danielle Richard (Milford, ME) added 2 RBI's and 2 runs while Brittany Hunt (Hickory, NC) collected 2 hits and 2 RBI's.

Fisher College only managed one hit over 5 innings and the only run they scored was unearned. Jackie Streeter took the loss for Fisher and she collected the only hit on the day for her team.

MMA 3 UMaine Presque Isle 1

Maine Maritime improved to 2-0 on the season behind solid pitching efforts from freshman Amanda Barker (Waterville, ME) and freshman Danielle Richard (pictured left). Barker picked up her second win of the season scattering 5 hits over 5 innings while striking out 8. Richard closed the game, pitching the last two innings for her first save of the year.

Barker once again did the job at the plate as well as on the mound going 1 for 3 with 2 RBI's. Richard did her part as well going 1 for 2 including a run scored and an RBI. Brittany Hunt (Hickory, NC) played well in the win going 1 for 3 and scoring twice.

Erica Davis led UMPI at the plate going 3 for 3 on the day while Nicole Russell pitched well in the loss going 6 innings and giving up 6 hits and 3 runs (2 unearned). Brittany Humphrey played well going 1 for 4 with a run scored.
