Lady Mariners swept by Colby College
Game 1: Colby 10 MMA 2 (7 innings)
The Lady Mariners fell to 8-16 overall after a 10-2 loss in to Colby College on Saturday afternoon at Ritchie Field. Colby hurler Alyssa Crowell (Gilford, NH) picked up the win for the White Mules, giving up only three hits and two runs over seven innings while striking out seven batters. Amanda Barker (Waterville, ME) took the loss for the Lady Mariners as she gave up 13 hits and eight walks while striking out nine batters over seven innings. Colby led 6-0 after five innings before Mallery Stanley (Standish, ME) hit her second home run of the year to inch MMA to within 6-2. Colby scored four runs in the top of the seventh to blow the game wide open and win by the score of 10-2.
Mallery Stanley (pictured left) led the way for MMA at the plate going 1 for 3 with a run scored, a home run, and two RBI's. Amanda Barker and Hillary Arris (Falmouth, ME) each had one hit for MMA on the afternoon.
Lizzy Fort (Wilmette, IL) led the Colby offense with a 3 for 4 afternoon including three runs, two RBI’s, while Alex Essman (Littleton, MA) went 2 for 4 including a two run home run in the fourth inning. Emily Pavelle (Mahwah, NJ) went 2 for 4 in the game with an RBI and Alyssa Lepore (Victor, NY) went 1 for 4 with an RBI. With the win, Colby improves to 11-13 on the season.
Game 2: Colby 5 MMA 1 (7 innings)
Maine Maritime dropped to 8-17 on the season after falling to Colby 5-1 in the second game of an afternoon double header at Ritchie Field. Colby held a 2-0 advantage going into the bottom of the fourth inning before MMA scored a run to close the gap to 2-1. In the top of the fifth, pitcher Amanda Roehn (Tampa, FL) helped her own cause by lifting a home run over the left field fence to gain back the run and push the lead to 3-1. The score remained the same until the seventh inning when right fielder Alex Essman (Littleton, MA) hit her second home run of the day to complete the scoring and give the Mules the 5-1 advantage.
MMA got a solid pitching effort from freshman Danielle Richard (Milford, ME) as she gave up 11 hits and five runs over seven innings. Amanda Roehn got the win for the Mules pitching seven innings while giving up just three hits and striking out three.
Nicole Poland (Damariscotta, ME) went 2 for 3 from the plate with a run scored while Brittany Hunt (Hickory, NC) picked up the only MMA RBI in the game.
Colby pitcher Amanda Roehn went 3 for 4 from the plate with two runs scored and an RBI while Essman went 1 for 4 with two RBI's. Carlie Minichino (Stratford, CT) went 2 for 4 with and RBI and a run scored in the game for Colby. The White Mules improve to 12-13 on the season with the win.
