Mariners batter the Rams 7-0

Castine, Maine - Maine Maritime Academy scored early and often as they defeated the Rams from Unity College 7-0 on Wednesday evening. The Mariners score three goals in the first 10 minutes of the match and proceeded to rattle off four more goals to run away with the victory and improve their record to 4-2-1 on the season.

The Mariners tallied their first two goals in the 2nd minute of the game when sophomore Nate Tipton (West Chester, PA) and freshman Ben Russell (Farmington, ME) scored thirty seconds apart. MMA struck again in the 6th-minute going up 3-0 when Tipton scored his second of the night after collecting a beautiful combination of passes from Abdullah Alhkayyat (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia) and Greg Smith (North Yarmouth, ME).

Alhkayyat scored his second goal of the season in the 14th minute from Nate Tipton and Nick El-Hajj (Hampden, ME) capped off the 1st half scoring to give MMA the 5-0 advantage going into the half.

The Mariners scored two more times in the second half on an Omaar Chaar (Stockton Springs, ME) goal and an unassisted tally from freshman Richie Munster (Greenville, ME).

MMA keepers Jeff Butland (Cumberland, ME) and Randy Bartlett (Lincoln, NH) combined for the shutout making 2 saves on 7 shots. Justin Kirkland took the loss for Unity giving up seven goals on 39 shots. The Mariners outshot the Rams 39-7 in the match.

Next up for the Mariners (4-2-1) is a home match against Fisher College on Sunday at 1:00pm.
