UMPI Beats Mariners 4-2
Castine, Maine The Maine Maritime Academy Men’s Soccer team lost 4-2 to the visiting Owls from the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Wednesday night in a non-conference match-up at Ritchie Field. Three different UMPI players scored en route to their 7th win of the season.
The Owls started the scoring in the 6th minute of the high scoring affair when Joshua Peaslee (Woolwich, ME) flicked a cross from Seth Dorr (Houlton, ME) past the goalie for the 1-0 lead. The Mariners answered to tie the score at 1-1 on Greg Smith’s (No. Yarmouth, ME) fourth goal of the year. Less than a minute later UMPI jumped on top 2-1 when Greg Fournier (Bradley, ME) scored from Trevor Hews (Wade, ME) off of a corner kick. The Mariners once again responded, knotting the match at 2-2, when Jacub Racinski (Portland, ME) collected an initial keeper save and tucked it in the back of the net for the equalizer.
The score remained tied at 2-2 until Matt Carrington (Nottingham, UK) scored on a direct kick from the top of the box, which proved to be the game winner. The Owls got their 4th tally on an own goal by MMA to win by the score of 4-2.
Richard Felbaum (Saco, ME) recorded the win for the Owls making 4 save on 16 shots. MMA keeper Jeff Butland took the loss for MMA making 4 saves on 15 shots. MMA drops to 5-4-1 overall while UMPI improves to 7-2-1 on the year.
