UMPI scores early and hangs on for win over MMA

Presque Isle, Maine -- Craig Maffei (Readfield, ME) netted the only goal of the game in the first two minutes of action as the University of Maine at Presque Isle men's soccer team topped Maine Maritime Academy 1-0 in non-conference action on Saturday.

The Owls (3-1) are scheduled to host the University of Maine at Machias on Saturday the 19th, while the Mariners (2-2) are slated to host Colby College on Wednesday the 16th.

The only goal of the game happened in the 2nd minute of action when Maffei recieved a perfectly placed pass from Trevor Hews (Wade, ME) on a direct kick for the winning goal.

Presque Isle netminders Austin Dufour (Fort Fairfield, ME) and Richard Felbaum (Saco, ME) combined for the shutout making one save each.

Jeff Butland (Cumberland, ME) stopped five shots in the loss as the Mariners were outshot 15-6.
