Top-Seed Husson Advances to host NAC Men's Soccer Championship

Bangor, ME – Husson University defeated Maine Maritime Academy 2-0 to advance to the North Atlantic Conference championship game. With the win, Husson improves to 9-8-2 on the season and will play host to the winner of Castleton versus Johnson State for the NAC Championship. Maine Maritime finishes their season with a record of 8-6-3.

Husson scored the game’s first goal 23:44 into the second half when Mark Trombley (Sr., Burnham, ME) was taken down in the Mariners box resulting in a penalty kick. Edwin Acosta (So., Honduras) took a center-left shot on goal to bring the score to 1-0.

Late in the first half, Mariners goalkeeper, Jeff Butland (Jr., Cumberland, ME), made a huge diving save to his right off a Taylor Wentworth (Fy., Ellsworth, ME) shot to keep the game 1-0 at the half.

Husson’s Tyler Metevier (So., Kittery, ME) scored the game winner 12:14 into the second half. Metevier received an assist from Edwin Acosta (So., Honduras) thirty yards from the goal and beat a defender, carried the ball toward the 18 yard line and scored off a shot that glanced under the crossbar and into the Mariners’ goal bringing the final score to 2-0.

Main Maritime goalkeeper Jeff Butland tallied 7 saves on 20 shots while Husson’s Miguel Dominguez (Jr., Rome, GA) tallied 6 saves on 11 shots.

The first seed Husson University will host the NAC Championship game at Boucher Field on Saturday, November 7. Game time has yet to be decided.
