Mariners beat the Clippers 2-0
Castine, Maine - Maine Maritime Academy scored two goals in the first half and never looked back as they beat the Clippers from UMaine Machias 2-0. The Mariners score two goals in a three-minute span to earn their first win of 2008 and even their record at 1-1-0.
The Mariners tallied their first goal in the 28th minute when junior Josh McFarlin (pictured left) scored an unassisted goal from the top of the box that was blasted into the left corner of the net. MMA struck again at 25:34 when Pat Somma (Windham, ME) converted a cross from Dan Hassett (Falmouth, ME) and headed past the keeper to put MMA up 2-0 going into the half. Both teams were scoreless in the second half as the Mariners finished the game with their first win and first shutout of the young season.
MMA keeper Randy Bartlett (Lincoln, NH) made three saves on the 13 Machias shots, earning his first win of the year. Adam Mauro (Medomak Valley) collected three saves on 12 MMA shots but took the loss.
