MMA out of playoff hunt
Castine, Maine The Thomas College Terriers shut out the Mariners from Maine Maritime 1-0 on Saturday in a conference match-up that would decide the playoff fate of both schools. The goal came in the 16th minute when Cory Underwood (West bath, ME) received a solid pass into the box from Tim Costa (Pelham, NH) and slipped it by MMA goalie Jeff Butland (Cumberland, ME) for the only goal of the match and the 1-0 victory. MMA had several chances to tie the score but couldn’t convert despite outshooting the Terriers 19 to 14 in the match.
Thomas College keeper Keegan Curtain (Durham, ME) recorded the shutout, making seven saves on 19 MMA shots. Jeff Butland (Cumberland, ME) took the loss for the Mariners giving up the only goal while making four saves on 14 Thomas shots.
