Mariners beat UMPI 1-0
Castine, Maine - Maine Maritime Academy (3-7-2 overall and 0-5-1 NAC) hosted the UMaine Presque Isle Owls (4-6-1) in a non-conference game tonight at Ritchie Field. MMA escaped with the hard fought 1-0 victory on the shoulders of a Tyler Eads (Belfast, ME) goal.
The Mariners scored the first and only goal of the match, 67 minutes into the contest, when Tyler Eads (pictured left) shouldered a deflected ball into the bottom left corner to put MMA up 1-0. The Owls had some quality chances late to tie the score, but couldn’t convert, and MMA escaped with their third victory of the season.
The Owls out shot the Mariners 18-9, but it was MMA keeper Randy Bartlett (Lincoln, NH) making 5 saves on 18 shots in the win. UMPI keeper Scott Clenchy (Saskatchewan, Canada) made 5 saves on 9 shots in the loss.
Next up for the Mariners is an away match at USM on Tuesday the 9th at 7pm.
