MMA and Husson Battle to 0-0 Tie
Bangor, ME In the first conference game of the year Husson out shot Maine Maritime Academy 24-5 but the game ended in a 0-0 tie. Husson is still looking for their first win of the season as they are now 0-5-1 while Maine Maritime is now 2-2-2.
Husson controlled much of the play throughout the game with numerous quality scoring opportunities. Randy Bartlett (pictured left) keep the Eagles at bay with 7 saves against 24 shots. Nattapong Kongsuriya (JR, Bangkok, Thailand) looked like he put the Eagles up 1-0 with 18:30 left in the game. Kongsuriya shot from the right of the goal got passed Bartlett but Mariner defender Anthony Marson (SO, Richmond, ME) came up with a big defensive save to keep the game scoreless.
At the start of the first overtime, Husson thought they had won the game when Nathan Carter (SO, Presque Isle, ME) got passed the defense and found the back of the net. Carter was ruled off sides by the linesman and the goal was called off. Miguel Dominguez (FY, Rome, GA) made his only two saves of the game in the second overtime as Maine Maritime made a late bid with two quality scoring opportunities. He finished with 2 saves against 5 shots.
Husson will host U. Maine Presque Isle on Wednesday, September 19th at 4:00 PM. Maine Maritime will travel to Castleton State, VT on September 22nd at 1:00 PM.
