Castleton wins 2-0 over Maine Maritime
Castleton, VT - The Castleton State College men’s soccer team controlled play throughout, and won for the first time in six games, defeating Maine Maritime 2-0.
Castleton had several chances in the first half, but all were turned away as Mariner keeper, Randy Bartlett, stopped six shots through the first 45 minutes.
Castleton’s Mike Anthony made a pair of finger-tip saves to keep the score knotted at 0-0 at halftime.
The Spartans’ chances continued to go by the boards in the early going of the second-half, but in the 59th minute Gerrit Marino sent home a Bennett Laderoute lead pass for the game winner.
Jon Vogt would tack on an insurance goal with three seconds remaining to give Castleton its first NAC win of the season.
Anthony finished the day with six saves, and his first shut-out of the season. Bartlett wound up with 14 saves in the loss as Maine Maritime falls to 2-3-2 (0-1-1 NAC).
The Spartans improve to 2-5 (1-1 NAC) and are back in action tomorrow afternoon as they host Husson College at 1:00 pm. Maine Maritime travels to Johnson State for a 1:00 pm kick-off tomorrow afternoon.
