Terriers beat Mariners 89-76

Castine, Maine --- The Thomas College Men’s basketball team used a balanced scoring attack in defeating the Mariners from Maine Maritime Academy 89-76 in a North Atlantic Conference match up at Margaret Chase Smith Gymnasium. The Terriers had five players reach double figures and shot 48% from the field en route to the important conference victory.

With the win the Terriers improve to 13-4 overall and 5-3 in the conference, while the Mariners drop to 5-14 overall and 1-7 in the NAC.

Thomas took a 10-point (46-36) lead into the half after a superior final ten minutes, which helped them overcome a five-point deficit.  Both teams played well on the offensive end of the floor in the second stanza with the Terriers outscoring MMA 43-40 and secure the 13-point victory. Thomas shot a sizzling 48% from the floor and converted 22 of 29 free throws (76%). The Mariners shot 45% from the floor but were hampered by 21 turnovers.

Andrew Duncanson (Portland, ME) and Darrell Alexander (Fairfield, TX) each led Thomas with 15 points while Francisco Alicea (Foxboro, MA) and Isaiah Brathwaite (Farmington, ME) chipped in with 14 apiece. Duncanson led the Terriers in rebounding with six and assists with eight while Ricky Costa (Pelham, NH) was the only other player in double figures with 10 points.

Sam Bell (Calais, ME) led six Mariners that reached double figures in the game with 13 points. Shawn Dostie (Bowdoinham, ME), Tyler Pineo (Corinth, ME), Jarred Sternbergh (Jonesboro, ME) and Bryant Ciomei (Stonington, ME) each had 11 points while Ben Russell (Farmington, ME) chipped in with 10. Russell, Bell, and Dostie had nine rebounds each while Ciomei led the Mariners with seven assists.
