Mariners cruise past UMPI 81-52

Castine, Maine - The Maine Maritime Academy Mariners had a balanced attack en route to a 81-52 victory over the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Saturday in a non-conference match-up between the two Maine schools. With the win, MMA improves to 4-7 on the season while UMPI falls to 1-7 with the loss.

Michael Wharff (Sangerville, ME) led a quartet of Mariners in double figures scoring 15 points which included 5 threes. Derek DiFrederico (Millinocket, ME) and Jake Manner (Frankfort, ME) each scored 14 points while Paul Campbell (Camden, ME) added 11. Jarred Sternbergh (Jonesboro, ME) played well for MMA, scoring 8 points and grabbing a team high 14 rebounds in the win. DiFrederico had 7 steals and Campbell had 5 assists to pace the Mariners.

The Owls, were led by Ronald Spencer (Chicago, IL), who scored 14 points and had 3 steals. Ben Rosser (Caribou, ME) had a double double for UMPI, scoring 10 points and grabbing a game high 15 rebounds.
