Maine Maritime Academy gets big conference road win over Thomas
WATERVILLE, ME--Despite 28 points from Andrew Duncanson (So., Portland, ME), Thomas College would drop its third conference game of the year to Maine Maritime Academy by a score of 77-63 on Tuesday evening at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium.
In the first half, neither team would be able to grab a distinct advantage, with the biggest lead being only four points. The battle would be back and forth with seven different lead changes, and six ties. With just seconds left, Duncanson would add a lay-up to give the Terriers the 35-33 advantage at the half.
The game would continue to be played tightly in the second half until the Mariners would quickly add points to the board with less than five minutes to play. In just over a minute of game time, Paul Campbell (Fr. Camden, ME) would hit back-to-back three pointers to stretch the Mariners lead to double figures. From there, the Terriers would be forced to foul, allowing Maine Maritime to hold their lead and end up taking the fourteen point win.
Duncanson led Thomas with his 28 points, while Isaiah Brathwaite (So., Farmington, ME), would chip in for 14 points. Shawn Rodgers (Fr., Philadelphia, PA) would grab a game high 19 rebounds while also adding seven points on the night.
The Mariners spread the scoring out well, and were led by Campbell and Jarred Sternbergh (Jr., Jonesboro, ME) who both scored 18 in the contest. Jake Manner (Sr., Frankfort, ME) wasn’t far behind, adding 17 points to go with his 10 rebounds, while Bryant Ciomei (So., Stonington, ME) contributed 10 points.
Thomas will hit the hardwood again on Saturday when they face conference leading Husson University at Noon at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium. The Mariners will continue their NAC schedule on Saturday as well when they travel to the University of Maine at Farmington for a 1:00 tip.
