Johnson State escapes with 64-60 win over Maine Maritime
Castine, Maine - The Maine Maritime Academy Mariners lost to Johnson State College, 64-60, on Saturday afternoon in a conference match-up at Margaret Smith Gymnasium. Bobby Shedd (Johnson, VT) scored a game high 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, leading the visitors to victory.
With the win, Johnson State improves to 12-11 on the season, and 6-6 in conference while MMA falls to 8-15 with the loss and 4-8 in conference play.
Paul Campbell (Camden, ME) led the Mariners with 15 points while Jake Manner (Frankfort, ME) chipped in with 14 points and a game high 16 rebounds. Derek DiFrederico (Millinocket, ME) had 11 points of his own and had a game tying shot with 2 seconds left in regulation that caromed off the back of the rim. Bryant Ciomei (Stonington, ME) continued his outstanding play for MMA scoring 13 points and dishing out 4 assists. DiFrederico led the Mariners with 7 assists.
The Badgers, who led the majority of the contest, were paced by Shedd’s double double. Johnson State got outstanding performances from Leandro Martinez (Philadelphia, PA) and John Foley (Valley Stream, NY) scoring 15 points and 16 points respectively. Miles Smith Jr. (Philadelphia, PA) led the Badgers with 6 assists in the win.
