BECKER COLLEGE SLIPS PAST MAINE MARITIME, 78-72
Leicester, MA, Feb. 2, 2008 Becker College guard Travis Suber netted a game-high 26 points, including 14-15 from thee freethrow line, and the Hawks used a late second half run to pull away from MMA to win 78-72 in Saturday’s North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men’s basketball game.
Becker College avenged a loss the previous night to Husson and improved to 10-10 overall, 6-3 NAC. Maine Maritime lost its third straight and fell to 8-10, 5-3 NAC.
The Hawks led 35-33 at intermission and could not get away from the Mariners for the majority of the second half until late in the game when they made all but one free throw down the stretch to pull away for good.
The Mariners committed 22 turnovers for the game but managed to keep the game close, as senior forward Neil Stewart (pictured left) dropped in a team-high 22 points.
For the game, Becker College held a 22-10 edge in points off turnovers and 24-15 advantage in bench scoring.
Junior guard Derek DiFrederico (Millinocket, ME) finished with 11 points while senior forward Adam Haskell (Winslow, ME) finished with 12 as the only other Maine Maritime players to reach double figures.
