Maine Men’s Basketball Coaches Association All-State Teams Announced

STANDISH, ME – The MMBCWA has announced its 2007-2008 men’s basketball awards. The head coaches from the thirteen college programs in the State of Maine voted for the Player, Rookie and Coach of the Year awards as well as the All-State and Rookie Teams.

Colby College sophomore forward Adam Choice (Newport, RI) was selected as the Player of the Year, Thomas College freshman guard Andrew Duncanson (Portland, ME) is the Rookie of the Year and Bowdoin College head coach Tim Gilbride is the Coach of the Year.

Adam Choice was named the Player of the Year after leading the Mules in scoring (18.0 PPG), rebounding (7.8 RPG) and blocked shots (1.36 BPG). The sophomore also averaged 1.44 steals per game and shot 78.9% (146-185) from the free throw line this season. Choice finished in a tie for the second highest scoring average among Maine players, was second in blocks and 9th in free throw percentage. Choice was also named to the NESCAC All-Conference Second Team.

Andrew Duncanson is the Rookie of the year after leading Thomas College in scoring (18.0 PPG), assists (4.1 APG), steals (2.36 SPG) and free throw shooting (77.9%, 88-113). Duncanson was named as the MMBCWA Rookie of the Week four times during the season and was also honored as the North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Year for his play.

Tim Gilbride led Bowdoin College to it’s best-ever season in 2007-08, tallying a school-record 22 victories with only seven losses. The Polar Bears made their first appearance in the NESCAC Championship game and earned the program's first NCAA tournament berth since 1999. Coach Gilbride, the winningest coach in Bowdoin’s history, also earned his 300th win during the season. Gilbride has been the head coach of the Polar Bears for 23 seasons.
