MMA outlasts Thomas and moves to 1-0 in NAC play
Castine, Maine - The Mariners won their first conference game of the season against Thomas College Saturday 76-64 on Saturday afternoon. MMA held the Terriers to 36% shooting and out-rebounded them 52-27 to secure the victory.
Neil Stewart (Rangeley, ME) led the Mariners with 15 points and 13 rebounds while Michael Wharff (Sangerville, ME) chipped in with 14, Bryant Ciomei (Stonington, ME) and Chad Paddock (Dayton, OH) both scored 12 points in the win. MMA shot 50% from behind the 3-point line in the first half en route to opening up an 8-point half time lead.
Thomas College was led by Andrew Duncanson (Portland, ME), who scored 25 points, contributed 4 assists, and 2 steals. Michael Burchill (Saco, ME) contributed 16 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Isaiah Brathwaite (Farmington, ME) played well scoring 7 points and grabbing 8 boards in the loss.
With the win MMA improves to 2-4 on the year and 1-0 in conference while Thomas drops to 3-5 and 0-2 in NAC play. Maine Maritime will be back in action next Saturday when they travel to UMPI for the Star City Invitational. Thomas will be back on the court Tuesday January 4th when they travel to UNE to play Wesleyan.
